You write for the web? Can you make my website really popular?
Everyone’s talking about SEO, even if they don’t quite know what it stands for. Search Engine Optimization is what can make your website one of the first results customers see if they type your industry into a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. SEO is as complex as the mysterious and constantly changing algorithms Google uses to rank websites in the first place.
I provide excellent SEO copy – including articles and blogs. But keep in mind that great SEO copywriting is only one piece of the puzzle. We’re not all IT geniuses — if you’re unfamiliar with HTML code or link building, you may want to find an Internet or SEO marketer to advise you on all aspects of your website’s SEO performance. Think of my services as one of the necessary ingredients that pushes your company over the top and on to the first page of results.
Who do you work with?
- Small to mid-sized publications (including newspapers and magazines)
- Small to mid-sized businesses
- Small to mid-sized organizations (including non-profits and charities)
- Graphic design firms / ad agencies (as a sub-contractor)
I already know how to write. Why should I hire you to do it for me?
Like any time you hire a professional, there are two main reasons:
1) Professional results. Anyone can write, but not everyone can write well. In a competitive market, distinguishing yourself from your competitors and assuring customers of your professionalism is vital. Professional writing helps you do both. That goes for both print and web. As discussed, good SEO copywriting also helps make your company one of the first a customer will see.
2) Efficiency. How long does it take you to write something you’re happy with? Which talents are you wasting while you’re trying to write? Was it worth spending all that time scratching out words when you could’ve been building your business? Probably not.
What kind of business relationship will we have?
I’m an independent contractor. Working as a contractor and working off-site allows me to give you lower rates. Some on-site work may be negotiable if a client is in southwestern Ontario, specifically London/Perth/Huron area.
How does the process work?
For a small business or non-profit, it usually works this way:
- Discuss project (I have a short questionnaire asking about your business, your competitors, your customers and your goals for the project)
- Work out timelines, milestones and payment
- Sign agreement and begin work! I will update you on a regular basis (usually every two days, depending on the timeline) and am always available for questions or comments.
For a graphic design / advertising agency that would like me to help out on a project, the process is quite similar. I will learn as much as I can about your client, if I don’t already know them, and we’ll work out the scope of the project. I’m happy to follow any freelancer protocols already in place.
